Born and
raised in Long Beach, City Auditor Laura Doud
attended Wilson High School, Long Beach City
College, and California State University, Long Beach
graduating with a degree in accounting. After
graduating she accepted a position with the office
of the City Auditor and served for a number of years
as a staff auditor.
After serving in the City Auditor’s office, Laura
became a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified
Fraud Examiner, and earned a Law Degree. She then
served as Controller of the Water Replenishment
District of Southern California, a position that
gave her the opportunity to assist in turning one of
the most financially challenged government bodies
into one of the best.
With her expertise and years of experience, Laura
became interested and successfully campaigned for
the position of City Auditor. One of her biggest
surprises was that people with whom she spoke did
not know that Long Beach had a City Auditor. Laura
has since made public outreach a priority.
Laura maintains memberships in several professional
organizations for CPAs and Fraud Examiners. She is a
member of the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center/
Miller Children’s Hospital Finance Committee and a
member of the Long Beach Playhouse Board of
Directors. In addition to her public service, she is
an active member of her church and lives in Long
Beach with her husband, Jim, and their young
daughter, Kelly.
One of Laura’s top priorities is to find better ways
for the office to serve the public. She often
highlights her discussions with the public by asking
these two questions: How are we doing? How can we do
better?
In her first 3 years in office City Auditor Doud has
energized this vital City Department. In addition to
completing significant reports such as audits of The
Long Beach Police Department, The Queen Mary and The
Long Beach Museum of Art, City Auditor Doud prepared
for and underwent the first Peer Review the was a
leader in the passage of Proposition H, a voter
approved referendum that resulted in raising $3.7
million annually for public safety.
