Cheryl A. Thorpe
Cheryl Thorpe, also known as Sherry, has served as an Audit Analyst in the Long Beach City Auditor’s Office for over 12 years. Sherry is responsible for managing over 300 active wage garnishment files for more than 5,000 City employees. She also ensures that the collection and payment process relating to these garnishments meets unique regulations as governed by more than twenty government agencies including the US Department of Education, the California Franchise Tax Board, the US Internal Revenue Service, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Sherry also serves as an alternate to the staff member assigned to the Disbursement Desk. When performing this function, Sherry reviews all City disbursements to ensure payments are appropriate, timely, authorized, and documented.
Prior to joining the City Auditor’s Office in 1997, Sherry worked as a Payroll Supervisor for Martin Bros/Marcowall for over five years. While working as Payroll Supervisor, Sherry managed all aspects of the payroll function for more than 600 employees.
