City
Auditor Doud Welcomes Job Shadowing Day Students to
City Hall
City
Auditor Laura Doud welcomed about 20 Jordan High
School Student Government representatives and Job
Corps students to City Hall during Job Shadowing
Day.
Job Shadowing Day is a program sponsored by the
Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Networks Youth
Opportunity Center, Long Beach Job Corps, Junior
Achievement and the Long Beach Unified School
District. The purpose of the program is to promote
the relevance between what the students are
currently learning in school and careers as well as
to expose them to various professional
opportunities.

In her remarks to the students, City Auditor Doud
encouraged them to establish their goals and to work
toward achieving them. She advised them to make
pursuit of those goals a priority, keeping their
vision on the rewards of working in a profession
about which they have a passion.
One
of the students, Jordan High School Associated
Student Body Historian, Melissa Vera, later met with
City Auditor Doud in her office. Melissa learned
that auditing is no longer solely bookkeeping but
has expanded to include performance reviews. She
viewed examples of each --- the City Auditor’s
ledger from 1925 and a recent audit report with
suggestions to improve efficiencies of a City
department. Melissa also spoke with several members
of the City Auditor’s staff to learn about their
varied backgrounds and how that experience and
education contributes to their work
City Auditor Doud concluded, “The day was a
rewarding experience for all involved, City Hall
staff members who hosted students as well as the Job
Shadowing Day participants.”
