City Auditor Doud Announces Highest Standards of Performance Met Results of Audit of the City Auditor’s Office, Good News for Long Beach
City Auditor Laura Doud announced the results of an
independent audit of the Long Beach City Auditor’s
Office, which shows that the Office has achieved the
highest standards of performance in the profession.
Government Auditing Standards guide local government
auditors nationwide and are issued by the
Comptroller General of the United States, the
official auditor of the U.S. Congress. Since 1988,
audit organizations following these Standards are
required to undergo peer review every three years.
This is the first peer review of the Long Beach City
Auditor’s Office.
“People often ask, ‘Who audits the auditors?’ said
City Auditor Doud. “Before 2006, the answer was,
‘nobody.’ Upon taking office, I made a commitment to
the public that the City Auditor’s Office would
undergo regular audits, and we have followed through
on that commitment. Just as we conduct audits to
promote accountability and transparency within the
City, the Standards require that our peers audit us.
The audit found that our internal operations are in
full compliance with Standards to ensure that our
work is reliable and credible.”
It is more critical than ever that taxpayer dollars
are monitored for appropriate, efficient, and honest
use,” said Doud. “Passing this review is a great
honor for the City of Long Beach. I am pleased that
our Office has achieved the highest standard of
audit work in less than three years since I assumed
office. I remain committed to continuous improvement
in our Office as we strive to provide the most
efficient and effective City government possible for
our residents.”
