City Auditor Laura Doud to Host Open House
Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the
Office of the Long Beach City Auditor
Long
Beach City Auditor Laura Doud announced
today that the Office of the City Auditor is
celebrating its 100 Year Anniversary of
service to the City of Long Beach.
An Open House will be held in the City
Auditor’s Office on Tuesday, November 18,
2008, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The City
Auditor’s Office is located on the eighth
floor of Long Beach City Hall at 333 West
Ocean Boulevard.

“By having an Open House, we hope visitors
will come and learn what we do,” commented
City Auditor Laura Doud. “It seems that many
people aren’t sure about what the City
Auditor does so we invite them to come to
the office, see what we do and learn about
the history of the Office and Long Beach.
This centennial celebration is the perfect
opportunity to accomplish this as well as to
honor those City Auditors who have served
Long Beach.”
The public is also encouraged to attend the
dedication of the Myrtelle L. Gunsul
Conference Room, which will occur during the
program. Gunsul was the Long Beach City
Auditor from 1919 until her retirement in
1951. “The conference room will be a living
tribute to Miss Gunsul’s extraordinary life
and commitment to public service in Long
Beach,” City Auditor Doud stated. “She
generously and unselfishly gave so much to
this community, and it is our hope that by
dedicating this conference room to her we
will keep her values and principles alive,
not only in our memories, but in our daily
actions.”
Doud continued, “When you have been
commissioned to protect taxpayer dollars it
is a big responsibility. Miss Gunsul said,
‘Public office is public trust.’ All of us
in the office take this trust seriously, and
we are committed to ensuring that the
taxpayers are getting the most out of their
hard-earned tax dollars.”
“Honoring those City Auditors who have come
before us on this centennial occasion also
serves to remind all citizens that we are
doing all we can to promote excellence and
efficiency in government. This is the legacy
of the Long Beach City Auditor’s Office, and
we are pleased to carry that legacy
forward,” Doud concluded.
